Bahamas Must-Sees by Trip Length

We’ve already established that you need to visit the Bahamas, and soon. Yet to be determined is how many days you’ll be visiting. Most people’s first experience with the Bahamas tends to be via cruise ship, as it is a major port in the Caribbean for all of the major ocean lines. But to truly grasp all that the Bahamas have to offer, I suggest a deep dive into the Bahamas, figuratively and literally!

If you only have ONE day to explore the Bahamas

Like I mentioned above, a one-day visit is almost always via cruise ship. This is a great way to get a little taste, but let’s make sure you get the most out of your time! The number one priority in the Bahamas is the beach. They have the most incredibly soft sand and their location with super shallow water means the water is crystal clear and always warm. Which beach, you ask? You really can’t go wrong; they are all pretty great! But my suggestions would be Blue Lagoon Island, Pearl Island, or the famous Cable Beach are all sure to please!

If you have a weekend (2-3 days) in the Bahamas

Even just a couple days in the Bahamas is better than being in the office! Here’s what I recommend for a quick trip. You still will want to dedicate most or all of one day at the beach, like above, but let’s get the full experience for day two. Since most visitors tend to come from totally different climates, getting the full effect of the Bahamian water will soothe any soul. For your second day, rent a charter, take a catamaran out, or take a snorkeling trip – anything that gets you out on, or in, the water!

If you have 4-5 days in the Bahamas

Now we’re getting to a place where you can actually get an idea of how incredible the Bahamas really are. Let’s layer in a few more authentic Bahamian experiences! So far, you’ve spent time on some of the most gorgeous beaches and have enjoyed the warm waters, so let’s head back on land for days 4-5. Though most resorts have pretty great food, it’s time to head out and find some incredible local eats. Food is an art in the Bahamas, and many locals have perfected their recipes, especially when it comes to local and freshly caught seafood. Try the conch salad, and thank me later! I also recommend doing a foodie tour – this is a small group tour by a local guide that will take you to some of the best eateries around the island to enjoy real, authentic eats.

If you have a whole week in the Bahamas

Okay, now we’re talking! To get the full Bahamian experience, a week is recommended. When you add days 5-7 or even 8 or more, now you get to take a deep dive into the history and culture of the Bahamas. Take a tour of historic castles and hear guides tell true pirate tales from the 1600’s. Make it a mission to get lost and find your own little private beach tucked in a cove somewhere. Best yet? Rent a charter and head to one of the 700 other islands for an in-depth Bahamian experience. The only thing left? Staying forever!

Is there a proper amount of time to visit The Bahamas? It really depends on the reason you are traveling and your budget. While most people happen upon The Bahamas via cruise ship, they often become so intrigued that they find themselves being drawn back to its shores. Whether you have one day or one hundred, The Bahamas are ready to answer your “why”, ready to welcome you. And I am here to get you to your incredible Bahamian escape!
