How to Eat Like a Local, My Foodie Guide to St. Lucia

Updated: May 28

Most people go on vacation expecting to eat well. I see your “well” and raise you an “expert-foodie” level kind of trip! Anyone can stumble across a popular restaurant in popular destinations, but what about those little hole-in-the-wall places, places locals go to? Now we’re talking! Here’s my list of seven incredible places with true St. Lucian flare.

1: Naked Fisherman in Smugglers Cove

If there was only one word to describe this place, it’d be: carefree. You can choose to eat on the deck, or even out on the beach. This is the kind of place songs are written about, a place where you never want to leave, the food is incredible, and you find yourself staying for hours on end, simply for the pure joy of it all.

2: Amici in Gros Islet

Chances are you’re visiting St. Lucia for some sort of a celebration- perhaps a honeymoon or an anniversary. Amici is a quaint little place that sets the stage for the perfect date night. Slightly upscale, but far from stuffy, Amici has a great menu and romantic atmosphere.

3: Jacques Waterfront in Rodney Bay

Are you looking for someplace super special? Maybe even for a bit of a splurge? Jacques is the place to go. Upscale, decadent, romantic, and the epitome of St. Lucian cuisine, all in an incredibly gorgeous setting.

4: Mango Tree in Soufriere

Enjoy fresh, farm-to-table cuisine? Then you must visit Mango Tree. This place features traditional St. Lucian dishes created by talented local chefs with local produce. Can it get any better? YES! Mango Tree might just have the best views on the island - dine al fresco on the terrace overlooking Petit Piton and the sea, especially at sunset.

5: Orlando’s in Soufriere

How about dining at a restaurant that boasts an award-winning chef? You know the food has got to be good! Take your tastebuds on a culinary adventure and head to Orlando’s in Soufriere for gourmet dining that appeals to more than just your sense of taste!

6: Spinnaker’s on Reduit Beach in Rodney Bay

When you think of dining in paradise, you’re really dreaming of a place like Spinnaker’s. This place is the epitome of “beach bar.” Literally right on the beach, live music, great food, and some of the best bar drinks in the Caribbean, you have to head to Spinnakers.

7: Friday Nights in Gros Islet

This item is a bit vague, but also an absolute must-do. This is more of an event, a cultural experience, than a restaurant. Every Friday night (except Good Friday) the small town of Gros Islet hosts a giant street party. They do it for themselves as much as they do for the locals! This event is full of not only great little street vendors and live music, but also several local places set up food kiosks and barbeques right in the street. If you want the ultimate St. Lucia cultural experience, this is the place to be, and eat!
